Increased road construction costs

The road construction costs increased by 1.1 per cent from the second quarter of 2016 to the third quarter of 2016. Material costs rose by 2.3 per cent in the same period.

The construction costs of open air roads increased by 1.0 per cent from the second to the third quarter of 2016, while the costs of concrete bridges and rock tunnels rose by 1.1 and 1.3 per cent respectively in the same period. Since the third quarter of 2016 the construction costs of open air roads, concrete bridges and rock tunnels have risen by 1.3, 3.0 and 3.3 per cent respectively. 

The maintenance of roads costs increased by 1.4 per cent from the second quarter of 2016 to the third quarter of 2016, and it was 1.6 per cent higher than in the third quarter of 2015. The material costs related to asphalt work were increased by 8.0 per cent from the second to the third quarter of 2016.
