Construction cost index for road construction, Q1 2009

The construction costs of concrete bridges decreased the most; down 1.1 per cent from the fourth quarter 2008 to the first quarter 2009. The construction costs are now 5.3 per cent higher than in the first quarter 2008.

Construction costs of open air road decreased by 0.5 per cent the last quarter, and are 1.2 per cent higher than one year ago.

Construction costs of rock tunnels rose by 0.3 per cent from the fourth quarter 2008 to the first quarter 2009 and the last year the costs increased by 4.4 per cent.

Moderate prices in asphalt work

The construction costs of asphalt work decreased by 5.6 per cent from the fourth quarter 2008 to the first quarter 2009. The costs of asphalt work decreased by 7.2 per cent in the last year. The costs of winter maintenance roads remained unchanged the last quarter.
