Construction cost index for road construction, Q3 2008

The construction costs of concrete bridges rose the most the last quarter, an increase of 3.8 per cent. The costs of open air roads and rock tunnels increased by 2.6 and 1.9 per cent, respectively.

From the third quarter last year to the third quarter this year, the total road construction costs rose by 10.1 per cent. The construction costs of open air road have increased the most, by 11.1 per cent. Construction costs of concrete bridges and rock tunnels rose by 10.2 and 7.4 per cent respectively.

Maintenance of roads

The total maintenance costs of roads increased by 3.3 per cent from the second to the third quarter of 2008, and are now 11.6 per cent higher than they were one year ago. The construction cost of asphalt work had the strongest increase, up by 20.7 per cent during the last year.
