Construction cost index for road construction, Q1 2006

From the fourth quarter last year to the first quarter this year the construction costs of roads rose by 0.6 per cent, while the material costs increased by 1.2 per cent.

The construction costs of open air roads rose by 4.3 per cent from the first quarter 2005 to the first quarter 2006. The costs of rock tunnels and concrete bridges rose by 3.8 and 2.3 per cent respectively in the same period.

The maintenance costs of roads increased by 5.1 per cent last year, and with 1.1 per cent from last quarter. The costs of asphalt work rose by 2 per cent last quarter, and are now 12.4 per cent higher in the first quarter of 2006 than in the first quarter of 2005.
