Road construction costs up 0.6 per cent

The construction costs of roads rose by 0.6 per cent from the fourth quarter of 2004 to the first quarter of 2005. Material costs increased by 1.7 per cent in the same period.

The construction costs of concrete bridges rose by 0.7 per cent from the fourth quarter of 2004 to the first quarter of 2005. The costs of open-air roads and rock tunnels rose by 0.6 per cent and 0.5 per cent respectively in the same period.

The maintenance costs of roads increased by 0.9 per cent from the fourth quarter of 2004 to the first quarter of 2005, and were 3.7 per cent higher in the first quarter of 2005 than in the first quarter of 2004.
