Lower machinery costs

The machinery costs in the Construction cost index for roads, decreased by 0.8 per cent from the fourth quarter of 2000 to the fourth quarter of 2001, caused by lower oil prices.

The construction costs for main roads and provincial roads rose by 0.8 per cent from the third to the fourth quarter last year and are only 1.7 per cent higher than in the fourth quarter a year before. The causes of this moderate year-to-year growth rate are lower machinery costs, and a moderate increase of 2.3 per cent in the material costs. The costs for ditches, basins and pipes increased the most on an annual basis, by 3.1 per cent.

Maintenance of roads

The construction costs for maintenance of main road and provincial road increased by 0.7 per cent from the 3r d to the 4t h quarter last year, and increased by 1.2 per over the fourth quarter period 2000.
