Decrease in year-to-year change

The construction costs for roads rose by 2.6 per cent from the third quarter of 2000 to the third quarter of 2001. The year-to-year change in the second and first quarter this year was 3.4 and 4.7 per cent respectively.

The blasting costs and the costs for ditches, basins and pipes increased the most on an annual basis, 3.6 and 3.7 respectively.

The construction costs for main road and provincial road rose by 0.4 per cent from the 2nd to the 3rd quarter this year. The costs for road surface increased the most last quarter, by 0.9 per cent. The costs for ditches, basins and pipes rose by 0.6 per cent in the same period.

Maintenance of roads

The construction costs for maintenance of main road and provincial road increased by 0.5 per cent from the 2nd to the 3rd quarter this year and increased by 2.8 per over the fourth quarter period.
