Moderate increase in construction costs

Road construction costs increased by 0.3 per cent from the first to the second quarter of 2012, and are now 2.6 per cent higher than in the second quarter of 2011.

The construction costs of open air roads rose by 0.6 per cent this quarter. The costs of concrete bridges increased by 0.3 per cent, while the costs of rock tunnels remained unchanged last quarter.

From the second quarter of 2011 to the second quarter of 2012, the construction costs of open air roads, concrete bridges and rock tunnels rose by 3.3, 1.9 and 1.4 per cent respectively.

The maintenance cost of roads increased by 0.4 per cent from the first to the second quarter of 2012, and is 3.2 per cent higher than in the second quarter of 2011.
