Higher costs for road construction
Road construction costs increased by 1.2 per cent from the fourth quarter of 2011 to the first quarter of 2012. The materials costs rose by 2.5 per cent, while labour and machinery costs increased by 0.5 and 0.2 per cent respectively in the same period.
The construction costs of open air roads rose the most, by 1.3 per cent. The costs of rock tunnels and concrete bridges increased by 1.0 and 0.9 per cent respectively. From the first quarter of 2011 to the first quarter of 2012, the total road construction costs rose by 3.9 per cent.
The maintenance cost of roads increased by 1.8 per cent from the fourth quarter of 2011 to the first quarter of 2012, and is 4.9 per cent higher than in the first quarter of 2011.
