Increase in government revenue

The central government’s fiscal account had a surplus of NOK 3.8 billion in the first quarter of 2011.

Total governmental revenue has increased by 13 per cent, or NOK 27.8 billion, compared to the first quarter of 2010. At the same time, total expenditure has increased by 5.2 per cent, from NOK 225 billion to NOK 236.6 billion. The surplus before net transfers to Government Pension Fund - Global is NOK 3.8 billion in the first quarter of 2011.

An increase in total transfers to the central government accounts for much of the increase in total revenue. The sum of transfers stood at NOK 197.2 billion at the end of the first quarter of 2011. Tax revenue accounts for NOK 145.6 billion of this sum.

Transfers also constitute the largest part of the central government’s expenses. In the first quarter of 2011, transfers from the central government totalled NOK 195.7 billion. This is 4.6 per cent more than the sum for the first quarter of 2010.

The quarterly figures are subject to random fluctuations, and must be interpreted with caution.
