Increase in revenue and expenditure

In the first quarter 2007, Central government fiscal account including National Insurance Scheme shows an increase in revenue of 5.5 per cent and an increase in expenditure of 8 per cent compared with first quarter 2006.

Total revenue came to NOK 173 billion, while total expenditure came to NOK 179 billion in the first quarter 2007.

The NOK 9 billion growth in government revenue is mainly due to increased tax revenue. Tax revenue increased by NOK 11.9 billion, or 14.3 per cent, compared with first quarter 2006. The increase in expenditure of NOK 13 billion is primarily due to growth in the Fiscal account excluding National Insurance Scheme. This increased by NOK 12.7 billion, or 11.7 per cent, compared with first quarter 2006. National Insurance Scheme total increased by 1.0 per cent.

The central government deficit, before transfers to the Government Pension Fund - Global, amounted to NOK 5.8 billion first quarter 2007, compared to a deficit of NOK 1.3 billion first quarter 2006.

Transfers to the Government Pension Fund - Global amounted to NOK 70 billion. Net lending and debt instalment amounted to NOK 52.6 billion. Gross financing, including debt instalments, totalled NOK 128.4 billion.
