Decline in government income

In the third quarter 2003, the Central government fiscal account, including the National Insurance Scheme, shows an income of NOK 107 billion. This is a decline of NOK six billion, or 5.6 per cent, compared with the same period last year.

The decline in government revenue is mainly due to declined interest and dividends.

Contemporary, the total expenditures showed a modest increase of 0.9 per cent compared with third quarter last year, from NOK 132 to 133 billion. Together with the reduced income, the growth in expenditures led to a decline of NOK eight billion in government surplus before net transfers to the government petroleum fund.
