Slight increase in government revenues

In the third quarter 2002, the budgetary Central government accounts including the National Insurance Scheme show an increase in total revenues of approximately NOK 1.9 billion, or 1.7 per cent, compared with the same period last year.

The small increase in revenues is partly due to reduced surplus from the state-owned petroleum activities. Operating surplus from the state-owned petroleum activities was NOK 13.1 billion in the third quarter 2002, compared with NOK 19.3 billion in the corresponding quarter 2001, a decrease of approximately 32 per cent.

The government's total expenditures in the third quarter 2002 amounted to NOK 131.5 billion, an increase of more than 6 per cent compared with the corresponding period last year. The increase is mainly due to the change in ownership of public hospitals from local to central government.
