Decreased government revenues

In the second quarter 2002, the Central government fiscal account including the National Insurance Scheme shows a decrease in total revenues of approximately NOK 40 billion, or 14.6 per cent, compared with the same period last year. The expenditures have increased by more than 9 per cent.

Reduced surplus from the state-owned petroleum activities contributes to the decline in government revenues. Operating surplus from the state-owned petroleum activities is NOK 15.6 billion in the second quarter 2002, compared with NOK 25.1 billion in the second quarter 2001. This is a decrease of approximately 38 per cent.

The government's total expenditures in the second quarter 2002 amount to NOK 140.2 billion. This is an increase of more than 9 per cent compared with the corresponding period last year. The increase is mainly due to the change in ownership of public hospitals from local to central government.
