Increased expenditures

In the approved budget for 2002, the total expenditure is amounting to NOK 567.4 billion. This is an increase of 10 per cent compared with the final budget for 2001.

The sharp increase in the expenditure reflects the change in ownership of public hospitals from local to central government.

The tables for the Central Government Fiscal Budget's revenue and expenditures by economic type, and expenditure by programme area have now been updated. The new tables show the government's budget for 2002 and the final budget for 2001, and accounting figures for previous years.

The government's budget for 2002 has a surplus of NOK 150 billion, which is a decrease of about NOK 92 billion compared with the final budget for 2001.
