Increased revenue and expenditure

In third quarter of 2001, the Central government fiscal account including the National Insurance Scheme, shows a weak increase in total revenues. In third quarter of 2001 government revenue was NOK 111 billion, compared with NOK 110 billion in third quarter of 2000.

The moderate increase in revenue compared with the same period last year is partly due to a decrease in the operating net surplus in extraction of petroleum: NOK 25 billion 3rdquarter of 2000 and NOK 19 billion 3rd quarter of 2001.

The government's total expenditure in third quarter 2001 amounted NOK 124 billion. This is a rise of 15.9 per cent compared with the same period last year. In this quarter, higher expenditure than revenue resulted in a negative surplus before net transfers to the government petroleum fund.
