Increased expenditures

The proposals 2002 in the Fiscal Budget show an increase of NOK 66 billion of the total expenditure. This is 13 per cent more than in the approved budget for 2001. Budgeted expenditure for 2002 amounts to NOK 569 billion.

Statistics Norway has finished updating the tables for the Central Government Fiscal Budget's revenue and expenditures by economic type and expenditure by programme area. The tables show the government's budget proposal for 2002, the approved budget for 2001 and accounting figures for previous years.

Increased health care expenditure

The sharp increase in expenditure reflects the change in ownership of public hospitals from local to central government. It is mainly the local government debt relief - amounting NOK 18.7 billon - and the allocation of resources to the regional health care companies that explains this growth.

The government's budget proposal for 2002 has a surplus of NOK 170 billion, which is a decrease of about NOK 7 billion compared with estimates for the 2001 budget.
