Tax payments this year same as last year

By the end of October this year, a total of NOK 569.0 billion was paid in taxes. The total by end October last year was NOK 568.6 billion. During October, the only significant tax payment was petroleum related, and the October payment this year was higher than last year.

Paid and distributed taxes by county. Change in per cent, January-September 2008 to 2009 and 2009 to 2010

There were two main components of tax payments in October. The most significant was the petroleum related taxes, which totalled NOK 29.5 billion. This was about NOK 4 billion more than October last year.

Reimbursement of taxes to non-personal taxpayers

The second component to influence the total tax payments during October was the reduction of the tax equalisation contribution to central government. The reimbursement of taxes to non-personal tax payers stems from the tax assessment that was recently finalised with respect to 2009. This year’s refund totalled almost NOK 12 billion, which is more than last year, when the refund was NOK 9.5 billion.

By the end of October this year, the total payment of tax equalisation to central government was NOK 51 billion; around NOK 9 billion more than last year. Tax payments from non-personal taxpayers so far this year total NOK 181 billion, compared to NOK 192 billion last year.

Minor changes elsewhere

There were only small payments from the advance tax arrangement, and some refunds under the same arrangement made the month’s total only NOK 0.5 billion (excluding employer contributions to the National Insurance Scheme). Last year the comparable amount was a refund of NOK 1.6 billion, so the difference between October of the last two years is about NOK 2.1 billion.
