Increase in materials recovery turnover

Waste activities and materials recovery generated 91 per cent of the turnover within water, sewerage and waste in 2010, in the sum of NOK 20.7 billion.

Employment for local kind-of-activity units, by industry. 2010

NOK 8.5 billon of the turnover in 2010 for waste activities and materials recovery was within waste collection, NOK 7.9 billion within materials recovery and NOK 2.5 billion within waste treatment and disposal.

The turnover for water, sewerage and waste went up by more than 19 per cent from 2009. The highest increase in turnover was within materials recovery, up NOK 1.9 billion or almost 32 per cent. Part of the reason for the observed increase was higher metal prices in 2010 (see producer price index ).

Total value added (at factor prices) amounted to NOK 6.7 billion, up 18.9 per cent from 2009. Waste collection and materials recovery was the largest industry, with a value added of NOK 5.9 billion (88 per cent of the total).

Most employees within waste collection

There were 8 128 employed within water, sewerage and waste in 2010. A total of 86 per cent (7 021 persons) were employed within waste activity and materials recovery. Of those employed in waste activities and materials recovery, 4 165 worked with waste collection. Remediation and other waste management employed only 100 persons.

Total investments within water, sewerage and waste amounted to NOK 2.2 billion in 2010. Investments within waste activities and materials recovery constituted approximately NOK 2 billion.

Enterprise figures for water, sewerage and waste

There were 1 066 enterprises within water, sewerage and waste in 2010, and together these employed just over 8 000 people. Total turnover at enterprise level was about NOK 20.6 billion (up 21 per cent from 2009).

From enterprises to public administration

Since the last publication of final figures, a number of enterprises and their local kind-of-activity units have changed classification from public enterprises to public administration, and are no longer included in the statistics.
