Growth in the refuse disposal business

The 383 local kind-of-activity-units (KAUs) involved in the collection and treatment of other waste had a total turnover of NOK 7.9 billion in 2003, an increase of 17.3 per cent from 2002. Employment in the sector also increased in this period, by 7.0 per cent to 4 693 people.

Sanitation, remediation and similar activities also experienced a growth in turnover in 2003. The 277 local KAUs in this industry class had a total turnover of NOK 268 million, an increase of 8.4 per cent from 2002. The industry class employed 309 people in 2003.

The industry class collection and treatment of sewage had a total turnover of NOK 603 million in 2003, down by 1.7 per cent from NOK 613 million in 2002. Employment fell by 50 to 545 people in the same period.
