More waste than expected

New calculations indicate that about 1.2 million tonnes of waste arose in the service industries in Norway in 1999. This is more than previously assumed and amounts to about 19 per cent of previously estimated total annual waste generation in Norway.

Wholesale and retail trade generate more than 40 per cent of the estimated total. Paper and cardboard amount to more than 40 per cent of the waste. In addition, paper is supposed to be a significant component of the mixed waste. The new figures will probably lead to higher estimated annual waste generation in Norway.
