Increased area of meadows for mowing

The area of meadows for mowing increased by 25 600 decares to a total of 4.78 million decares from 2013 to 2014. The total grain area amounted to 2.89 million decares in 2014; a decrease of 21 100 decares from the year before.

The total utilised agricultural area dropped by 12 000 decares to a total of 9.86 million decares in 2014. Of the total agricultural area in 2014, fully cultivated agricultural land covered 8.1 million decares, 0.2 million decares were surface cultivated meadows and 1.56 million decares were infield pastures. The total grain area amounted to 2.87 million decares in 2014. The area of barley dropped by 329 600 decares from 2013 to 2014. In the same period, the area of wheat increased by 242 200 decares to 790 600 decares, and the area of oats by 29 200 decares to 717 300 decares.

Fewer holdings

Preliminary figures show that the number of holdings dropped by 900 from 2013 to 2014 to a total of 42 900 in 2014. The average size of farms increased from 226 decares in 2013 to 230 decares in 2014.

Fewer cattle

The number of cattle dropped slightly by 14 200 from 2013 to 2014 to a total of 839 400. The number of beef cows increased, while the number of dairy cows and other cattle was reduced. The average herd size for dairy cows was 25, and for beef cows 15.

The number of breeding pigs dropped by 2 600 to a total of 94 300 in 2014. The average herd of breeding pigs was 80 in 2014.
