Fall in meat production

A total of 141 500 tonnes of meat from domestic animals were approved for human consumption during the first six months of 2010; a decrease of 4 per cent from the same period last year.

Altogether, 60 100 tonnes of pork, 39 100 tonnes of poultry, 38 400 tonnes of beef and veal and 3 600 tonnes of mutton and lamb were approved during the first half year 2010. Compared with the first half year 2009, the production of meat from cattle and poultry decreased by 8 and 5 per cent respectively, while the production of meat from sheep increased by 3 per cent.
