Decrease in meat production

A total of 147 000 tonnes of meat from domestic animals were approved for human consumption during the first six months of 2009, a decrease of 1 per cent from the same period last year.

All together 60 200 tonnes of pork, 41 700 tonnes of beef and veal and 41 200 tonnes of poultry were approved during the first half year of 2009. Compared with the first half year of 2008, the production of meat from poultry increased by 3 per cent, while the production of meat from pig and cattle decreased by 2 and 3 per cent, respectively.
