Increase in timber cuts
A total of 2.4 million cubic metres of timber were cut for sale in the first quarter of 2011. This is an increase of 7 per cent from the corresponding quarter of 2010.
The roundwood removals increased by 155 000 cubic metres compared with the first quarter of 2010, the main reason being more sales of pulpwood of spruce.
Increase in pulpwood price
The aggregated gross value of roundwood sold to the manufacturing industry was NOK 877 million in the first quarter of 2011; an increase of 16 per cent compared with the corresponding quarter in 2010. According to preliminary calculations, the forest owners obtained NOK 369 per cubic metre; an increase of NOK 28 compared with the first quarter of 2010. The average price per cubic metre of pulpwood increased by NOK 61 from the first quarter of 2010 to the first quarter of 2011, while the average price of saw logs was almost the same.
