Low sales and low prices

In 2009, a total of 6.6 million cubic metres of timber was cut for sale. For the country as a whole the timber price was NOK 307 per cubic metre.

Average price per cubic metre industrial roundwood for sale. 1980/81-2009. NOK current prices and NOK 1980 price value

The quantity cut in 2009 is the lowest since the middle of the 1960s. Lower timber price as a consequence of the international financial crisis was the main reason for the low logging activity. In 2008, a total of 8.1 million cubic metres was cut for sale, and the average timber price was NOK 364 per cubic metre.

Most spruce

In 2009, spruce amounted to almost three quarters of the total removals and pine to one quarter. Broad leaved came to less than 2 per cent.

The aggregated gross value of roundwood sold to the manufacturing industry in 2009 amounted to NOK 2 billion; the lowest value in 25 years. In 2008, the corresponding figure was NOK 2.9 billion.

Final figures at municipality level are published in Statbank .
