Low sales of roundwood

Roundwood removals decreased by 16 per cent in the third quarter of 2009 compared with the same quarter of 2008. The average timber price fell by NOK 55 to NOK 283.

A total of 1.4 million cubic metres of timber were cut for sale in the third quarter of 2009. Roundwood removals decreased in most counties.

Lower average price

The aggregated gross value of roundwood sold to the manufacturing industry was NOK 396 million in the third quarter of 2009; a decrease of 29 per cent compared with the corresponding quarter in 2008. According to preliminary calculations, forest owners obtained NOK 283 per cubic metre; a decrease of NOK 55 compared with the third quarter of 2008. The average price per cubic metre of saw logs decreased by NOK 41, while pulpwood decreased by NOK 58 from the third quarter of 2008 to the third quarter of 2009.
