Decrease in roundwood sales and prices

A total of 8.1 million cubic metres of industrial roundwood was cut for sale in 2008, a decrease of 120 0001 cubic metres from 2007. From January to December 2008 the average price of saw logs fell by NOK 100.

The aggregated gross value of roundwood sold to industry in 2008 totalled NOK 2.9 billion. According to preliminary calculations, forest owners obtained an average price of NOK 361 per cubic metres sold, compared with NOK 370 in 2007.

Almost all the decrease in quantity cut from 2007 to 2008 was due to lower activity at the end of the year in the heavily forested south-eastern part of Norway. The county of Hedmark had the highest decrease, with 240 000 cubic metres.

Decrease in the fourth quarter

For the country as a whole, commercial roundwood removals fell by 9 per cent in the last quarter of 2007 compared with the corresponding quarter in the previous year.
