Increase in roundwood sales
8 per cent more timber was cut for sale in the second quarter of 2008 than in the corresponding quarter of 2007. The average price per cubic metre timber rose by NOK 19 compared with the second quarter last year, but dropped NOK 18 from the first quarter of 2008.
For the country as a whole, commercial roundwood removals amounted to a total of 2.3 million cubic metres. The removals rose in most of the counties.
The timber price is falling
According to preliminary calculations, the forest owners obtained a price of NOK 376 on average per cubic metre sold. This is NOK 19 more than in the second quarter of 2007, but NOK 18 less than in the first quarter of 2008.
The pulp prices for pine and spruce were on average NOK 51 and NOK 37 higher respectively than in the second quarter of 2007, while the average price of saw logs of spruce was NOK 5 lower than in the second quarter of 2007.
