Increase in roundwood sales and prices

The quantity of timber cut for sale increased by 12 per cent from 2006 to 2007, while the aggregated gross value of the timber rose by 32 per cent from 2006 to 2007.

A total of 8.2 million cubic metres of industrial roundwood was cut for sale in 2007. This is 850 000 cubic metres, or 12 per cent, more than in the previous year.

The aggregated gross value of the roundwood sold to the manufacturing industry in 2007 totalled NOK 3 billion - an increase of 32 per cent compared with the previous year. According to preliminary calculations, the forest owners obtained an average price of NOK 370 per cubic metre, compared with NOK 313 in 2006.

Almost the entire increase in quantity from 2006 to 2007 was due to increased activity in the heavily forested south-eastern part of Norway. Hedmark had the highest increase with 450 000 cubic metres, or 23 per cent.

Fourth quarter

For the country as a whole, commercial roundwood removals increased by 22 per cent in the fourth quarter of 2007 compared with the corresponding period in the previous year. The average price per cubic metre of saw logs increased by NOK 107.
