One million buildings situated on farms

Out of a total of 3 939 000 buildings, one in four is situated on an agricultural and forestry property. Dwellings make up 25 per cent of the buildings on these properties, whereas 50 per cent are agricultural buildings.

Buildings on agricultural and forestry properties. 2010

Agricultural and forestry properties with uninhabited dwelling houses. 2010. Per cent

A total of 185 000 agricultural and forestry properties are now registered; 83 per cent of which have dwellings. In 2010, 33 000 agricultural and forestry properties with dwellings were uninhabited.

One million buildings

A total of more than one million buildings are situated on an agricultural and forestry property and almost half of them are agricultural buildings. Twenty-two per cent of these buildings were built before 1900 and are registered in the national register of old and protected buildings (SEFRAK). Almost 60 per cent of the buildings in this register are situated on an agricultural property.

Share of female owners increased

In the previous years the share of female owners of agricultural and forestry properties has increased slowly. In 2010, more than 25 per cent of the properties had a female owner. Almost 69 per cent of the properties were owned by a man, while 6 per cent had an impersonal or deceased owner. The female share of the owners is decreasing by increasing size of the property. While 29 per cent of the properties with only forestry area were owned by a woman, the corresponding share for properties with more than 50 hectares of agricultural area was 15 per cent. Only 9 per cent of the properties with more than 2 000 hectares of productive forest area had a female owner.

On average, the female owners were almost 60 years old, while the male owners were 56 years old.

Background

The statistics are built on data from several administrative registers, of which the Farm Register is the basis. A quality improvement of areas and units in the Farm Register is currently being carried out at municipality level. This is resulting in changes that do not necessarily show the real change from one year to another.

The national register SEFRAK

A national register of buildings built before 1900. In the county of Finnmark, buildings built before 1945 are registered.
