Slight increase in moose hunting

A total of 34 950 moose were shot during the 2013/2014 hunting season; an increase of 300 animals from the previous year. Except for the previous hunting year, the number of moose shot is the lowest since the mid-1990s.

In total, a felling quota of 44 700 animals was issued. The hunting success rate was 78 per cent; an increase of one percentage point from the previous year.

More moose shot in the north

In the counties of Nord-Trøndelag and Nordland, the number of animals shot increased by 343 and 298 respectively. In total, 5 400 and 3 700 moose were shot in these counties respectively, and only in Hedmark were more moose shot.

Hedmark is still the largest "moose county" in terms of animals shot. In total, 6 900 animals were shot, which is 200 fewer than the year before.

61 000 moose hunters

Among the cervid species, moose hunting is the most common. A total of 61 000 hunters participated in the moose hunt during the 2012/2013 hunting season.
