6 000 decares of cultivated land transferred in 2016

In 2016, 6 000 decares of cultivated land was transferred to non-agricultural use, compared with 6 300 decares the year before.

In addition, 5 200 decares of cultivable land was transferred to non-agricultural use, a decline of 1 000 decares from the year before.

About 44 per cent of the cultivated area was transferred for use as public traffic areas, 22 per cent for residential areas and 11 per cent for business activity. Of the cultivable area, 33 per cent was transferred to business activity and 27 per cent to public traffic areas.

Increase in land reclamation

Municipalities permitted land reclamation of 21 600 decares in 2016, an increase of 3 500 decares from the year before. The counties Hedmark and Nord-Trøndelag permitted 4 000 and 2 900 decares of the land reclamation respectively, while Oppland permitted 2 500 decares.

In addition to reporting land transferred to various types of non-agricultural use and reclamation, the statistics also consider decisions taken about the splitting of agricultural property and applications for concessions to buy a farm.
