More beds, more man-years, more patients

The figures for specialized substance abuse treatment in 2005 show an increase in beds from the year before. The utilization of beds is still high; almost 84 percent were used last year.

The capacity within the sector was 1 798 beds in 2005. This number is related to 72 treatment units; 18 more units gave out-patient consultations. On the national level, 557 360 bed-days were registered, just above 40 percent of those are linked to Helseregion Øst. More than 13 000 hospitalizations and almost 70 000 out-patient consultations witness about a still high need for substance abuse treatment. As in 2004, men are the main group of patients; about 32 percent of all treatments were given to women.

The increase in treatment is also reflected in the personnel figures. From 2004 to 2005, the number of man-year within the substance abuse treatment sector rose by approximately 15 percent to 2 646 man-year.

Some discrepancies in the total figures are due to a lack of reporting; cf. "About the statistics" in order to read more about data quality.
