About half a million bed-days within drug treatment
Numbers for the specialized drug-abuse treatment in 2004 show that the capacity is quite well used. On a national level, almost 90 percent of all beds were occupied in 2004.
In 2004, the capacity within the specialized cross-sectional substance-abuse treatment consisted of 1460( 1 ) beds in 80 institutions. The total amount of bed-days was nearly 480.700. Over all, the sector conducted ca 21400 treatments in 2004. The majority of patients were men, while women counted for 32 percent of all patients.
Employment in 2004 within the specialized substance-abuse treatment was slightly above 2300 man-year.
Since Statistics of Norway gathered data from substance-abuse treatment for the first time in 2004, there will be some aspects of uncertainty in connection to the data material. Therefore, the presented numbers will be somehow lower than the real figures due to not fully established routines for reporting. The quality of data will be increased step-by-step in the following years.
