Preliminary figures show that total expenses within specialist health services were NOK 63 billion in 2003. Expenditures for general hospitals amounts to 49 billion, and expenditures for psychiatric institutions 11 billion. Total expenditures make an average of NOK 13,700 per inhabitant.

Total expenditures include general hospitals, psychiatric institutions, ambulances, the care and treatment of substance abusers, administration and personnel and recruitment costs, but excludes depreciation.
