More man-years in psychiatry
From 2000 till 2001 the number of man-years in psychiatric institutions and psychiatric wards rose by 3.9 per cent. Also the level of education rose during the last year.
Man-years are estimated as full-time employees plus part-time employees (converted into full-time employees) at 31 December. Man-years cover only agreed working hours, as overtime is not included. By the end of 2001, there were 17 200 man-years in psychiatric institutions and wards. The share of staff working in child- and adolescent psychiatry has increased from 10.3 per cent of the total man-years in 1990, to 15.0 per cent of the total in 2001.
Higher educational level
The level of education also rose. In 1990 5.1 per cent of total man-years were man-years of physicians, and by the end of 2001 the physicians' share of the total had raised to 7.1 per cent. By the end of 1990 4.2 per cent of the personnel were psychologists, and 32.1 per cent were qualified nurses and other nursing and therapy personnel, collage-trained (special-care nurses, physiotherapists, ergonomists, social workers (collage trained) and teachers). By the end of 2001 these personnel categories had raised to 7.2 per cent and 44.1 per cent respectively. At the same time the share of personnel without collage training (auxiliary nurses, other auxiliary personnel, unqualified occupational therapists) has been reduced from 34.1 per cent in 1990 to 24.3 per cent in 2001.
