Modest increase within health and care services

The number of man-years within municipal health and care services shows a modest increase from 2001 to 2002. The increase is larger for the nursing and care sector than for the municipal health service.

For 2002, it was agreed upon close to 94 000 man-years for employers within municipal nursing and care services, physicians and physiotherapists excluded. This is an increase of about 2 per cent compared with the previous year. The increase in man-years exceeds the increase in the number of users. The final figures for 2002 show that there were about 42 000 beds in institutions for the aged and disabled, whilst about 162 000 received home-based services. This corresponds with 0.46 man-years pr. user.

The number of users of nursing and care services is steadily increasing amongst the younger persons below 67 years and amongst the oldest above 85, whilst the number of users between 67 and 85 has decreased somewhat.

The number of residents in institutions is close to the number of beds, e.g. 42 000. In addition, about 46 000 persons are residents in dwellings for the aged and disabled.

Within the municipal health service there are only small changes in the main figures. For 2002, it was agreed upon some 4 000 physicians man-years, 257 man-years within the institutions included. Also the physiotherapists agreed upon some 4 000 man-years, included 357 in the institutions. School health and health centre services employed a number of persons corresponding to about 3 000 man-years. Public health nurses contribute to the largest employer's group within these kinds of services.
