Increase in manufacturing
Production in Norwegian manufacturing increased by 0.7 per cent from August to October 2014 compared with the previous three-month period, according to seasonally-adjusted figures. The output in manufacturing went up 1.6 per cent from September to October 2014.

The index level for Norwegian manufacturing was 124.9 (2005= 100) in the period August to October 2014, compared to 124 in the previous three-month period.
Three-month change: high manufacturing output from August to October 2014
There was a 0.7 per cent increase in manufacturing from August to October 2014, according to seasonally-adjusted figures. The reason for the growth can be attributed to the high level of activity among suppliers to the petroleum sector industries. Industries such as machinery and equipment and building of ships, boats and oil platforms had an increase in production in this period. Moreover, these industries have shown an increase of 126 and 123 per cent respectively since 2005. Within ships, boats and oil platforms, the high activity levels are related to high output growth among leading producers. For machinery and equipment, the production was at a record level from August to October 2014. In addition, fabricated metal products experienced also a strong output growth in this last period.
Shutdowns for planned maintenance work in September 2014 among the main producers in refined petroleum, basic chemicals and the pharmaceutical industry led to a decline in production. Meanwhile, a lower level of production in rubber, plastic and mineral products led to a decline in this industry.
Monthly change: notable increase in production from September to October 2014
Refined petroleum, basic chemicals and the pharmaceutical industry together with ships, boats and oil platforms faced a solid output increase from September to October 2014, according to seasonally-adjusted figures. The increase in refined petroleum, basic chemicals and the pharmaceutical industry is particularly due to a restart-up in October after shutdowns for planned maintenance work among the main producers in September. Within the building of ships, boats and oil platforms, the growth in October is particularly linked to higher activity among producers of supply vessels for the offshore industry.
On the other hand, food products and basic metals had a minor decrease in production in this period.
Twelve-month change: stronger growth in Norway than in the euro area in September 2014
Production in Norwegian manufacturing went up by 2.1 per cent from September 2013 to September 2014, according to calendar-adjusted figures. The growth can particularly be related to an output increase in industries such as machinery and equipment and repair and installation of machinery. Estimated figures from Eurostat, the EU`s statistical office, indicate that production in the manufacturing industries in the euro area went up by 1.2 per cent in this period.
Three-month change: solid increase in total industrial production (PII)
The overall production index (PII) covering extraction, mining, manufacturing and electricity supply increased by 4.4 per cent from August to October 2014 compared with the previous three-month period, according to seasonally-adjusted figures. In this period, extraction of crude petroleum increased by 8.2 per cent, while extraction of natural gas went up by 8.2 per cent. On a month to month basis, from September to October 2014, extraction of crude petroleum went down by 3.7 per cent and extraction of natural gas increased 4.7 per cent respectively, according to seasonally-adjusted figures. Production within Norwegian electricity supply decreased by 8.1 per cent from August to October 2014, compared with the previous three-month period, according to seasonally-adjusted figures.
