Further growth in manufacturing output

Manufacturing output rose by 3.7 per cent from the first to the second quarter of 2008, according to seasonally adjusted figures. This was due to an advance in the intermediate goods output and a further upturn in the production of capital goods.

The output of intermediate goods grew by 5.5 per cent in the second quarter this year compared with the previous quarter. The production of basic chemicals and basic metals has contributed to this expansion. This development was partly due to a growth in the Norwegian solar energy industry and the production of intermediate goods for use in this industry.

Favourable order situation

There was a 6.9 per cent increase in the capital goods output in the second quarter of 2008 compared with the first quarter, according to seasonally adjusted figures. This was affected by a further growth in output within oil platforms, machinery and equipment as well as transport equipment. The positive development within the output of capital goods continued due to the favourable order situation .

Consumer goods output went down by 1.3 per cent in the second quarter this year compared with the first quarter. Food products saw a fall in production, while the output in publishing, printing and reproduction expanded.

From May to June 2008

According to seasonally adjusted figures, manufacturing output dropped by 1.2 per cent from May to June 2008. The output of intermediate and consumer goods was reduced.
