Continued growth in manufacturing output

The output in Norwegian manufacturing was 3.1 per cent higher in March to May 2008 compared with the previous three-month period, according to seasonally adjusted figures.

The capital goods output went up by 5.2 per cent in this last period. This was due to a further growth in output in oil platforms, machinery and equipment as well as transport equipment. The output in electrical and optical equipment has also increased in this last period. The positive development within capital goods output continued due to the favourable order situation .

Intermediate and consumer goods output

There was a 4.8 per cent higher output of intermediate goods in March to May this year compared with the previous three-month period, according to seasonally adjusted figures. The output in basic chemicals and other non-metallic mineral products as well as in basic metals has contributed to this upturn. This development is partly due to a growth in the Norwegian solar energy industry and the production of intermediate goods for use in this industry.

Consumer goods output went down 1.4 per cent compared with the previous three months. Foods products saw a small increase, while publishing, printing and reproduction had a drop in the production.

Decline from April to May 2008

According to seasonally adjusted figures the manufacturing output dropped by 0.7 per cent from April to May 2008. The output in consumer goods decreased, while the production in capital and inter-mediate goods increased.
