Growth in intermediate goods output

The output in Norwegian manufacturing rose by 1.2 per cent in the September to November period compared with the June to August period, according to seasonally adjusted figures.

The production of intermediate goods rose by 2.2 per cent in the last three-month period. This was mainly due to a 7.2 per cent increase in basic chemicals output due to the high order volume . Basic metals as well as wood and wood products have also seen a growth in production. Pulp, paper and paper products experienced a drop in output due to a maintenance shut-down and low international demand.

The capital goods output increased by 0.5 per cent in the September to November period compared with the previous three months. Oil platforms and transport equipment experienced continued growth in production due to the high volume of orders in 2007.

Upturn for food products

The production of food products increased by 1.5 per cent in the last three-month period. The development was also positive in publishing, printing and reproduction. In total, the consumer goods output rose by 1.2 per cent in the September to November period.

Growth since November 2006

The manufacturing output rose by 3.0 per cent from November 2006 to November 2007, according to working-day adjusted figures. The capital goods output rose by 8.0 per cent, while intermediate goods and consumer goods increased by 1.8 and 1.6 per cent respectively.

Norway and the euro area

According to working-day adjusted figures, there was a 4.6 per cent growth in Norwegian manufacturing output from October 2006 to October 2007. Industrial production in the euro area rose by 3.5 per cent in the same period, according to figures published by Eurostat .
