Continued output growth in manufacturing

The output in Norwegian manufacturing rose by 1.1 per cent in the August to October period compared with the May to July period, according to seasonally adjusted figures.

The production of intermediate goods rose by 1.8 per cent in the last three-month period. This was mainly due to a 9.1 per cent increase in basic chemicals output and growth within wood and wood products and other non-metallic mineral products. Pulp, paper and products experienced a 4.5 per cent decline in production.

Transport equipment

Capital goods output was still at a considerably high level and the high order volume for building and fitting of supply boats have contributed to the latest upturn in transport equipment. The production of capital goods has seen a 0.9 per cent growth in August to October this year compared with the previous three months. There was however a minor fall in output in oil platforms and modules, following significant growth in the previous periods of 2007.

Food products

The output in food products increased by 0.7 per cent in the August to October period compared with the previous three months. The production of consumer goods was almost unchanged in the last period.

Significant growth since October 2006

Manufacturing output rose by 4.6 per cent from October 2006 to October 2007, according to working-day adjusted figures. Capital goods output rose by 9.7 per cent, while intermediate goods and consumer goods increased by 5.1 and 0.6 per cent respectively.

Norway and the euro area

According to working-day adjusted figures, there was a 4.0 per cent growth in Norwegian manufacturing output from September 2006 to September 2007. Industrial production in the euro area rose by 3.1 per cent in the same period, according to figures published by Eurostat .
