Continued growth in manufacturing

The output in Norwegian manufacturing rose by 0.9 per cent from May to July 2007 compared with the previous three-month period, according to seasonally adjusted figures.

The capital goods output had a further 4.8 per cent increase, and the production was on a record-high level. Continued growth within machinery and equipment together with oil platforms have contributed to the latest upturn. Significant deliveries to the oil and gas sector in Norway and abroad have influenced this upturn. In this last period, transport equipment also had an increase in the output.

Intermediate goods output dropped by 0.7 per cent in May to July compared with the previous three-month period. Shutdowns for maintenance have affected the output in basic chemicals in this last period. The output in wood and wood products decreased by 1.3 per cent, while non-ferrous metals saw a 1.1 per cent growth in the production due to increased demand from abroad.

Increase in consumer goods

The output in consumer goods increased by 0.4 per cent from May to July 2007 compared with the previous period, due to a growth within non-durable consumer goods. Food products as well as publishing, printing and reproduction had an increase in the output. Durable consumer goods saw a drop in the production.

Significant growth since July 2006

Manufacturing output has gone up by 5.1 per cent from July 2006 to July 2007, according to working-day adjusted figures. Capital goods output rose by 11.1 per cent together with a 4.4 per cent growth in intermediate goods output.

Norway and the euro area

According to working-day adjusted figures, there was a 5.0 per cent growth in Norwegian manufacturing output from June 2006 to June 2007. The industrial production in the euro area increased by 2.6 per cent in the same period, according to figures published by Eurostat .
