Record-high production of capital goods

The output in Norwegian manufacturing rose by 0.9 per cent from March to May 2007 compared with the previous three-month period, according to seasonally adjusted figures.

The capital goods output had a further 2.7 per cent increase and the production was on a record-high level. Continued growth within fabricated metal products, machinery and equipment together with oil platforms have contributed to the latest upturn. Electrical and optical equipments had also a significant growth in the output in this last period.

Rise in wood and wood products

The output in intermediate goods saw a 0.4 per cent growth from March to May 2007 compared with the previous period. Wood and wood products had an increase in the production, while basic metals and basic chemicals had a drop in the output. Shutdowns for maintenance have affected the output of basic chemicals in May 2007.

The consumer goods output had a 1.9 per cent drop from March to May 2007 when compared with the previous three-month period. The production fell in food products and in publishing, printing and reproduction.

Significant growth since May 2006

The output in manufacturing has gone up by 5.2 per cent from May 2006 to May 2007, according to working-day adjusted figures. Capital goods output had a 11.4 per cent increase. The production of intermediate goods rose by 2.1 per cent, while the consumer goods output increased by 4.4 per cent.

Norway and the euro area

According to working-day adjusted figures, there was a 6.1 per cent growth in the Norwegian manufacturing output from April 2006 to April 2007. The industrial production in the euro area increased by 4.0 per cent in the same period, according to figures published by Eurostat .
