Continued growth in manufacturing

The output in Norwegian manufacturing increased by 0.4 per cent from February to April 2007, compared with the previous three-month period. This is according to seasonally adjusted figures.

The capital goods output went up by 1.2 per cent during the last three moths. Oil platforms and fabricated metal products have seen a continued upturn due to a high level of activity in the Norwegian oil and gas sector. The output in oil platforms and fabricated metal products increased by 1.4 and 2.3 per cent respectively.

The output in intermediate goods had a 0.8 per cent growth from February to April 2007 compared with the previous three-month period. This development is due to an increased output in basic chemicals. There was a minor decline in production of basic metals and wood and wood products.

The production of consumer goods decreased by 1.3 per cent from February to April 2007 compared with the previous three-month period. The output in food products dropped by 3.0 per cent and there was also a small decline in publishing, printing and reproduction.

Since April 2006

According to working-day adjusted figures, the output in manufacturing increased by 6.1 per cent from April 2006 to April 2007. Capital goods output had a 10.1 per cent increase while the production of intermediate goods went up by 4.9 per cent. There has been a 3.0 per cent growth in the production of consumer goods during the last twelve months.

Norway and the euro area

According to working-day adjusted figures, there was 5.4 per cent growth in Norwegian manufacturing output from March 2006 to March 2007. The industrial production in the euro area increased by 5.3 per cent in the same period, according to figures published by Eurostat .
