Continued growth in manufacturing

The output in manufacturing increased by 0.6 per cent in the first quarter of 2007 compared with the last quarter of 2006, according to seasonally adjusted figures.

The capital goods output rose by 0.5 per cent in this period. Following significant growth in the last quarter of 2006, the output in transport equipment dropped by 0.5 per cent in the first quarter of 2007. Oil platforms and modules and fabricated metal products have seen a continued upturn in this period together with machinery and equipment.

The output in intermediate goods had a 1.9 per cent growth in the first quarter of 2007 compared with the last quarter of 2006. Basic chemicals contributed to these changes with a 2.1 per cent increase in output, while pulp, paper and paper products saw a 2.3 per cent drop in production. There was a minor decline in the production of wood and wood products in the first quarter of 2007, according to seasonally adjusted figures, following strong growth in the last quarter of 2006.

The production of food products increased slightly in the first quarter of 2007 compared with the last quarter of 2006, according to seasonally adjusted figures. The output in publishing, printing and reproduction was almost unchanged.

Since March 2006

The output in manufacturing rose by 5.6 per cent from March 2006 to March 2007, according to working-day adjusted figures. The production in manufacturing increased by 0.9 per cent from February 2007 to March 2007, according to seasonally adjusted figures.

Norway and the euro-zone

According to working-day adjusted figures, there was a 4.7 per cent growth in Norwegian manufacturing output from February 2006 to February 2007. The industrial production in the Euro zone increased by 4.1 per cent in the same period, according to figures published by Eurostat
