Growth in manufacturing

Norwegian manufacturing experienced an increase of 1.1 per cent from August to October when compared with the previous three-month period, according to seasonally adjusted figures. A continuous growth within capital goods as well as intermediate goods contributes to this rise.

Manufacturing of capital goods in the same period had an increase of 2.2 per cent. This is mainly due to the high level of activity within oil platforms and fabricated metal products throughout 2006. An increasing demand abroad for Norwegian engineering industries is the main reason for the growth of 1.1 per cent within machinery and equipment n.e.c. in the three-month period from August to October this year compared with the previous period (May to July).

Increase for intermediate and consumer goods

Intermediate goods increased by 1.9 per cent in the last three-month period compared to the previous period this year. Wood and wood products, rubber and plastic products and other non-metallic mineral products also experienced an increase. These changes are mainly due to the level of activity within construction in Norway. Basic chemicals and non-ferrous metals experienced a slight decrease within the same period when compared to the previous three-month period.

Compared with the previous three-month period, consumer goods show an increase of 0.3 per cent in the three-month period from August to October. Food products, beverages, tobacco show a slight decrease whereas publishing, printing and reproduction show an increase in output along with furniture and other manufacturing.

Norway and the euro-zone

According to figures adjusted to length of month, there was a 3.9 per cent growth in the Norwegian manufacturing output from September 2005 to September. The industrial production in the Euro zone increased by 3.3 per cent in the same period, according to figures from published by Eurostat .
