Slight decrease in manufacturing

The output in manufacturing has decreased by 0.3 per cent from March to May 2006 compared with the previous three months, according to seasonally adjusted figures.

The capital goods output experienced a 1.3 per cent growth in this last period. Transport and machinery equipment have seen a growth in the production, while the output from manufacture of electrical and optical equipment has declined.

The output in intermediate goods has declined by 1.7 per cent from March to May 2006 compared with the previous three months. Pulp, paper and paper products as well as wood and wood products had a decrease in the production, but non-ferrous metals saw an improvement in the output.

The consumer goods output decreased by 3.3 per cent from March to May this year compared with the previous three months, due to a drop in the food products. Furniture had an increase in the production.

From April 2005 to April 2006 there was a 0.1 per cent drop in the Norwegian manufacturing output. The industrial production rose by 1.9 per cent in the euro-zone during the same period, according to figures from Eurostat

Changes in the seasonally adjusted figures from April to May this year must be evaluated carefully and together with changes from March to April 2006.
