Slight decrease in manufacturing

The output in manufacturing has decreased by 0.9 per cent from February to April 2006 compared with the previous three months, according to seasonally adjusted figures.

The consumer goods output decreased by 4.8 per cent in this last period, due to a drop in food products. A decline in the production, processing and preserving of meat and meat products as well as fish and fish products have contributed to these changes.

The output in intermediate goods has declined by 1.1 per cent from February to April 2006 compared with the previous three months. Pulp, paper and paper products as well as wood and wood products had a decrease in the production, but non-ferrous metals saw a significant improvement in the output.

The capital goods output experienced a 0.5 per cent growth from February to April 2006 compared with the previous three months. Transport equipment and oil platforms and modules have seen a growth in the production, while the output from manufacture of electrical and optical equipment has declined.

From March 2005 to March 2006 there was a 4.7 per cent growth in the Norwegian manufacturing output. The industrial production rose by 3.8 per cent in the euro-zone during the same period, according to figures from Euro stat

Changes in the seasonally adjusted figures from March to April this year must be evaluated carefully and together with changes from February to March 2006.
